‘The Heritage way’ is a term we use to describe how we deal with our members, our communities, our staff and the way we make our business decisions.
Heritage is a different financial institution and for us, ‘People first’ is more than a tag line.
Not only are we Australia’s largest building society, we are also a mutual organisation. Being a mutual organisation means we don't have shareholders. Instead, by having an account with Heritage you are not just a customer, you actually become a Heritage member with a share in our ownership and a voice in how we operate.
Because of this structure we don't try to maximise the profits we make from customers to pay shareholders. We retain modest profits to ensure we remain financially strong and return the rest to our members as fair pricing, lower fees and charges, flexible products, and more staff to give you higher levels of service. These benefits amount to many millions of dollars each year in additional value that would otherwise be paid to shareholders.
So, ‘People first' means focusing on high levels of service, lower fees and charges and a culture of integrity, excellence and community.
As a result independent surveys of customer satisfaction with their main bank, building society or credit union, show our members rate us among the highest in the country.
